We all have different sayings and running quotes that help motivate us. Runner, Sharon Rosenblatt, shares hers with us. Thank you, Sharon!
Inspiration From the Poets
As an English major, I took my share of poetry classes. While they inspire great things like courage, bravery, and true love, most poets were not athletic.
Yet, like most inspirational sayings, the key is to find one that relates to you. He might be known for taking the Road Less Traveled, but my best running advice is from Robert Frost’s poem, “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”.
The poem concludes:
“The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.”
I have a bracelet with those final lines, “Miles to go before I sleep”. It’s motivation to tell me to keep adding those miles for my marathon training and telling me that no matter how far I’ve been, I’m not close to done. That’s the best part of the run–going further than you’ve been yesterday and never being content until tomorrow.
